Documents Required For Passport-
These are the documents required for fresh passport-
a. Proof of Present Address.
b. Proof of Date Of Birth.
c. Proof of Non- ECR Category.
These are the documents which can be used as proof of address for passport-

Note:
Matriculation or Higher Educational Pass Certificate-
All persons above the age of 50 years-
i) Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Births & Deaths
OR
ii) School leaving certificate / Secondary School leaving certificate/ Certificate of Recognized Boards from the school last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution.
All children up to the age of 18 years-(For re-issue of passport, after they attain the age of 18 years, documents to prove their non-ECR category has to be submitted, else ECR stamping will be done)-
Birth Certificate issued by Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth Certificate by Registrar of Births and Deaths.
Income-Tax payers (including Agricultural Income-Tax payees) in their individual capacity, their spouses and dependent children below the age 18 years-
i) Proof of assessment of income tax and actual payment of income tax for last one year
Pass Certificate issued by the Institute
Nurses possessing qualifications recognized under the Indian Nursing Council Act. 1947-
Nursing Certificate
All professional Degree holders , their spouses and dependent children. Examples of professional degree holders are Doctors holding MBBS degree or equivalent degree in AYURVED or HOMEOPATHY, accredited Journalists, Engineers, Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Lecturers, Teachers, Scientists, Advocates, etc-
Certificate of the professional degree held
Passport copy (first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page and the page of observation (if any), made by Passport Issuing Authority)
Persons holding Permanent Immigration Visa, such as the visas of UK, USA and Australia-
Copy of Immigration Visas, or the Permanent Resident card of the country of stay.
Note:If the applicant does not have Non-ECR status then All such ECR passport holders need to obtain Emigration Clearance Certificate from the Protector-General of Emigrants, Ministry of Overseas India Affairs.
These are the list of documents required for reissue of passport-
a. Old Passport in original with self-attested photocopy of its first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page (previously ECNR) and the page of observation (if any), made by Passport Issuing Authority and validity extension page, if any, in respect of short validity passport.
b. Proof Of Present Address. (See Above For list of documents accepted as address proof).
c. Proof of Non- ECR Category. (See Above For list of documents accepted as proof of non ECR).
Passport is a very crucial document & it should be handled with care. However, unfortunately your passport has been stolen, then you need to re-issue your passport. These are the documents needed for reissue of your passport-
a. Proof Of Present Address (See Above For list of documents accepted as address proof).
b. Proof Of Date Of Birth (See Above For list of documents accepted as proof of date of birth).
c. Affidavit stating how and where the Passport got lost/ damaged as per Annexure F. (Download Affidavit Here)
d. Police Report in original.
e. Proof of Non- ECR Category. (See Above For list of documents accepted as proof of non ECR).
f. Self-attested photocopy of first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page of old Passport.

- Applicants are required to submit the proof of address of the present address only, irrespective of the date from which he/she has been residing at the given address. However, he/she is required to mention all the places of stay during previous one year (from the date of application filling) in the Passport application form.
- Furnishing of Aadhaar card will expedite processing of passport applications.
- Aadhaar letter/card or the e-Aadhaar (an electronically generated letter from the website of UIDAI), as the case may be, will be accepted.
- as Proof of Address (POA) and Proof of Photo-Identity (POI) for availing passport related services. Acceptance of Aadhaar as PoA and PoI would be subject to successful validation with Aadhaar database.
- (For Minor): For minor applicants, present address proof document in the name of parent(s) can be submitted.
- (For Document No. 7): Only public limited companies can give address proof on company letter head along with seal. Computerised print-outs shall not be entertained.

Documents Required For Date Of Birth-
Date of birth is crucial in passport. This indicates if you are a minor or adult. These are the list of documents accepted as proof of date of birth for passport-
Documents mentioned in point 4 to 8 are acceptable as proof of Date of Birth only if it has the precise Date of Birth of the applicant.
1 | Birth Certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other prescribed authority,whosoever has been empowered under the Registration of Birth and Deaths Act, 1969 to register the birth of a child born in India |
2 | Transfer/School leaving/Matriculation Certificate issued by the school last attended/recognised educational board |
3 | Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy |
4 | Copy of an extract of the service record of the applicant (only in respect of Government servants) or the Pay Pension Order (in respect of retired Government Servants), duly attested/certified by the officer/in-charge of the Administration of the concerned Ministry/Department of the applicant |
5 | Aadhaar Card/E-Aadhaar |
6 | Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India |
7 | PAN Card issued by the Income Tax Department |
8 | Driving License issued by the Transport department of concerned state Government |
9 | A declaration given by the Head of the Orphanage/Child Care Home on their official letter head of the organization confirming the DOB of the applicant |
Documents mentioned in point 4 to 8 are acceptable as proof of Date of Birth only if it has the precise Date of Birth of the applicant.

Documents Required For Non ECR Category-
If you fall under Non- ECR category, You need to submit proof of non-ecr.
All holders of Diplomatic/official Passports-
No separate document is required except Diplomatic passport.
All GAZETTED Government servants, their spouses and dependent children-

- For Gazetted Government servants-

- Who have undergone three months pre-sea training at any of the Government approved training institutes, such as T.S. Chanakya, T.S. Rehman, T.S. Jawahar, MTI (SCI) and NIPM, CHENNAI, after production of identity cards issued by the Shipping Master at Mumbai/Kolkata/Chennai-

If you want to issue your passport under tatkal scheme, these are the list of documents needed for passport, in addition to mandatory proof of address, proof of date of birth & proof of Non- ECR previously explained.
To Obtain Passport on Out of Turn Basis, You need to submit any 3 out of these 13 documents described below-
1. Aadhaar Card/e-Aadhar containing the 12 digit Aadhaar number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI)
2. Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC)
3. Service Photo Identity Card issued by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, local bodies or Public Limited Companies.
4. SC/ST/OBC Certificates.
5. Arms Licenses.
6. Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen's Pension Book/Pension Payment order, ex-servicemen's Widow/Dependent Certificates, Old Age Pension Order, Widow Pension Order.
7. Self-Passport (unrevoked and undamaged).
8. Income Tax Identity (PAN) Cards.
9. Bank/ Kisan/ Post Office Passbooks.
10. Student Photo Identity Cards issued by Government Recognized Educational Institutions in respect of full time courses.
11. Driving Licenses (valid and within the jurisdiction of State of submission of application).
12. Birth Certificates issued under the RBD Act.
13. Ration Cards.

If your passport's validity has been expired or due expire, or it has been lost, or pages exhausted, Stolen or Damaged, in all these cases you need to reissue your passport.These are the list of documents required for reissue of passport-
a. Old Passport in original with self-attested photocopy of its first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page (previously ECNR) and the page of observation (if any), made by Passport Issuing Authority and validity extension page, if any, in respect of short validity passport.
