After getting the report from your police station, SP office submits the Police Verification Report to Regional Passport Office. If you have criminal charges, then SP office may submit negative report against you. In this case, RPO may deny issuance of Passport.

Your local police station officer will contact you via phone call/visit once they receive the passport application from SP office. They may visit your address & ask you xerox copies of few documents (discussed later), signature in few pages & ask few normal questions. Otherwise, you itself have to visit your police station (Thana) with required documents for the verification process. If they ask for bribe, politely deny as the police verification process for passport is completely free (Rs 0/-).

Pre-Police Verification- When The police verification is conducted before the issuance of passport. It is the default mode of passport verification. Passport is dispatched Within three working days of receipt of a Police Verification Report (PVR) from the Police Department. This does not include date of receipt of PVR.
Post-Police Verification- Police Verification Process is carried out after issuance of the passport. Passport is shipped On third working day excluding the date of submission of application - without waiting for the Police Verification Report.
No Police Verification- No Police verification is carried out for issue of passport. Police Verification Process- Step by Step
In the Police Verification Phase, Your Online Passport Application is forwarded to the SP (Superitendent of Police) District Office of your Hometown by Passport Office. After receiving your passport application, SP Office then forward the application to your local Police Station (Thana). It is the responsibility of your Local Police Station to Perform the necessary Police Verification Process & then submit the Report back to SP office within 7 working days.After getting the report from your police station, SP office submits the Police Verification Report to Regional Passport Office.
